About

The Wisconsin Information Technology Education Grant

Pursuant to Wis. Stat. §115.455, The Wisconsin Information Technology Education Grant, authorized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), was established to provide opportunities for public school students in grades 6 to 12, technical college district students, and patrons of public libraries to build digital literacy, enhance foundational computer science skills and to obtain industry leading technology certifications. The recurring grant process is completed on an annual basis by DPI.

For the upcoming grant year (July 2024-June 2025), the grant funds will cover certification exam costs for credentials available through Microsoft Learn; this opportunity can be used utilized by any school or teacher in the state of Wisconsin seeking the resources and training to support the teaching of computer science curriculums, digital literacy, and IT skill building. Outside of the classroom, any Wisconsin resident can use the free trainings available at Microsoft Learn to develop their preferred IT knowledge at a user-driven pace; all students and library patrons then qualify to take advantage of free certification exam vouchers (covered by the grant) offered through testing sites at their school, or through select Wisconsin public library sites (more information about specific library cites that offer certification proctoring here).

Why get certified?

Certification Unlocks Potential

The value of industry-recognized certification

Industry-recognized certifications provide candidates with a pathway to enhance their technical skills and employability. By bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical, real-world application, industry-recognized certifications offer a solution for employers to ensure a candidate possesses the skills required to succeed. Certifications not only provide tangible proof of acquired skills, but they also provide intrinsic value to candidates.
